Kindergarten Curriculum

Kindergarten at The Summit

The A Beka Curriculum works wonderfully for kindergarteners! Children learn new words by combining and changing sounds to create new words from ones they already know. Reading advances at a rapid pace. Kindergarteners are taught to read with a systematic, intensive, phonics-based, step-by-step reading plan, giving them a solid foundation for developing exceptional reading skills. Your child will learn to read with wonderful accuracy! Science becomes an even greater component in your kindergartner’s education as your child learns about God's plan for seeds, animals, the seashore, health, weather, and seasons. Your child will have his or her own books that they will take home once completed—and kids are fascinated with the idea having their own books and actually being able to read them! The small size of the books allows kids to see their progress. All this gives them confidence in their ability and helps them want to read more. Children begin to explore the beginnings of American history, and delve into simple geography. We reinforce the learning from previous years with continued lessons in good manners, safety, and health. Bible stories are taught and memory verses are learned. This is when your child begins to embrace their own uniqueness, and we’ll encourage them every day. Art and Music are integral parts of that self-expression, and your child will learn poetry, songs, hymns, and will draw, color, cut, and paste and work with different textures to create their own art.

"When we started looking for a preschool for our son Chase in 2012 I did a lot of research on local daycares and preschools.  My mother started keeping him when he was 2 months old and he had never stayed with anyone else so leaving him with complete strangers was going to be an adjustment for him and us as well.  He was the only child in our family at the time so we knew he needed to be around other kids for the social interaction and teaching from someone other than us.  I really wanted him to be in a Christian based teaching environment and The Summit does just that.  I love the fact that he is learning what he needs for Kindergarten but he is also learning life lessons, Bible verses and stories."

"Summit Prep is everything any parent could ever want in a school. I’m not even sure where to start in this testimonial, they have exceeded my expectations in every way imaginable. It oozes awesome from the moment you pull in the parking lot. The attention to detail can be seen in everything from how nice the building is to how clean the facilities are. You can’t get in the front door without an access card, the added sense of security for that feature alone adds so much trust in this place when you drop your children off."

"If you are looking for a place where your child can grow in the Lord, learn everything they need to know for Kindergarten and have structure in a loving environment, this is the place for you. My daughter is four and is READING. Yes! Reading! And has stopped me in my tracks when quoting scripture and applying it to her every day life. She gets it, and she’s so little. Her teachers and the Summit have been a huge blessing in our lives. It just wouldn’t be the same without them. They will set your children up for success."

"Chase has separation anxiety not unlike many children, however his was a little more extreme than most. He cried at drop off for a very long time. His teachers were wonderful at comforting him and he would typically stop by the time I left the building. It was hard at first to leave him while he was crying but his teachers would do everything they could to help including holding, cuddling and/or distracting him if needed. I would have never been able to leave him crying if I didn’t feel absolutely sure that he would be taken care of. Now almost 1.5 years later he loves school, a lot of times he doesn’t want to leave in the afternoon. He has learned so much and made many friends, which is exactly what we wanted for him. The awesome teachers and staff really make sure the kids are ready for school and life. We would recommend The Summit 100%."

"Knox started at Summit Preparatory Academy in September 2013. He was 18 months at the time, transitioning from a home-based daycare.  As we were approaching the two-year mark, we felt it was time for a more structured, learning based environment. We could not be happier with this decision! Knox is so happy at Summit, and his attitude and communication skills prove it. He leaves everyday singing and dancing the whole way home! He has developed so much from Day One. Thank you to the Faculty and Staff of Summit Preparatory Academy for providing unmatchable care. We are so grateful, and look forward to spending the next few years with you!"
